Shea Butter And Your Skin
Shea Nuts are the heart of all Azmera skin care products. A Shea nut is native to the dry woodland Savannas of West Africa and is grown/extracted from an African Shea Tree. Women in West Africa have been extracting the fat within the nut and turning it into Butter to be used for cooking, skin/hair care and medicine.
Shea butter has been around for hundreds of years, but the rest of the world are just starting to take advantage of the benefits it provides. Few people know that shea butter is grown from the seeds of the Shea Tree, which is found in the Eastern and Western tropical regions of Africa. Although the use of this natural mineral is quite new in North America, Africans have been reaping the benefits of shea butter for centuries. We are excited to introduce this rejuvenating product to more people and expand the culture of African made products.
Our Shea Skin Care collection includes Body Butters and Hand Creams.
The Story Of Raffia And How Our Handbags Are Made
We began with the intention of presenting to the world our favourite weaving techniques used by Ghanaian women, raising awareness about ethical manufacturing practices, and encouraging sustainable consumerism. Handmade in Ghana, our handbags are designed in a way that preserves the history of weaving and crafting as an art form while also highlighting the vivid, vibrant colours of Africa. Natural differences in texture and color are part of our designs, and we aim for beauty and originality in each piece.
All of our handmade handbags, baskets, and trays are manufactured from ethically sourced raffia from our Ghanaian family farmers who adopt the traditional process of dyeing the raffia ready for weaving. We use as much raffia as we can and save leftovers for smaller bags and other ornaments. Each bag is unique due to the use of natural fibers and the emphasis on handcrafting. Our raffia products include handbags, baskets, and trays.
Our Wooden Crafts Have A History
Trees in Ghana have long been thought to be the home of supernatural spirits and powers, both benevolent and malevolent. The trees were felled for carving, and specific ritual purifying ceremonies were performed on them. When a carver got a new set of tools, he had to pacify them in order to develop good and friendly connections with the spirits. Strong alcoholic beverages were poured over the tools, along with specific libation prayers. Today, Sese, Tweneboa, and Rosewood are the most common carving woods in Ghana.
Every individual piece of handmade crafts that we offer at Azmera is rich in history, love, and devotion to an ancient craft that has been perfected throughout generations. Our handmade wooden crafts range includes beautiful bowls, spoons, drums, serving utensils, and tableware sets.
